It’s finally confirmed by Honda, the newest 2017 Honda Odyssey coming next year. It’s too early to speculate about changes, but first spy photos have been appeared. However, the current model of the Odyssey has been around since the 2011 model year and considering that Honda usually upgrades the model at six-year intervals then we should prepare for the next generation of it which will likely arrive with the 2017 Honda Odyssey.
While most of us prefer sports cars or at least a high performance sedan, there are a lot of people who need a lot of space inside the cabin, a very comfortable ride and powerful and reliable engines. For these people the Honda Odyssey as well as the other minivans on the market might be the perfect choice.
Under the Hood
Under the hood of the 2017 Honda Odyssey we are still going to find a 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6. However, unlike the current model, this engine will make more of everything. It will offer up to 290 horsepower and around 270 lb-ft of torque which should be enough to make for quite a fast minivan. Just like before, the minivan will come in a front wheel drive form but this time around, an all wheel drive system is expected to be installed as an option.
Also, for those who don’t want the all wheel drive system, it seems that Honda is going to install their all wheel steering system which should make for a rather impressive minivan to drive. The only transmission of choice is going to be a 9 speed automatic with a push-button controller on the dashboard which will be provided by ZF. The only drawback here is that Honda might sell the all wheel drive model a bit too expensive in order for it to make sense.
Interior & Exterior
Because this will be an all new model, it will get an all new interior as well. This will receive a new design for its dashboard which will get rid of the older busy design in the favor of a much cleaner looking center stack and a new instrument cluster. These will make the driver’s life a lot easier and it will improve the way the car feels.
The old two-screen design will be gone and instead Honda will install a larger screen at the top of the dashboard which will be controllable with the help of a rotary knob. The materials will be just as good as before and besides the eight standard seats, the 2017 Honda Odyssey will also include its usual vacuum cleaner in the trunk as well as standard 4G LTE and Wi-Fi.
The exterior is still a well preserved secret but if we had to take a guess than the new Odyssey will definitely borrow some design cues from the new Pilot, such as the front end as well as part of the rear. However, it will be taller, longer and slightly wider so Honda will also add unique features which will make it standard out among its competitors.
2017 Honda Odyssey – Release date & Price
Even though Honda did not release any official information about the upcoming minivan, a model has been spied testing and crucial details emerged from this. Firstly, it seems that the new model might sit on a new platform which would allow Honda to build a lighter and safer car than before. On top of that, they will be able to better divide the interior space thanks to a new floor-pan and a slightly longer wheelbase which will add precious interior room.
The release date will likely be some time at the end of 2016 and the production model will not come on the market until the mid of 2017. Its price will not differ all that much from that of the current model which means the car should start right under $30,000 while a high performance version will not go past $45,000.
