Japanese automaker will relaunch an iconic car of its lineup, and because of that, here’s the new 2018 Honda CRZ. Originally, the CRZ was a lightweight sports car which was quite cheap to buy and own. However, throughout the years the models has evolved quite a bit and the current generation has been marketed as the first hybrid hot-hatchback on the market. Unfortunately is was not all that successful mostly because it is a slow and rather expensive car to get. Well, things are going to change in the near future because it seems that the 2018 Honda CRZ is going to be a completely different beast.
Firstly, unlike the current car which is a standalone version, the new CRZ is actually expected to be part of the Civic lineup. This means that it will get a very similar chassis but it will also receive a slightly different styling than the current generation. While there are not all that many official details available about it, we do know that the CRZ is going to be the high performance version of the Civic and not just a new dull model to drive around.
This doesn’t mean that the Type R will be discontinued. In fact, the Type R will be the four-door version with a rather less impressive engine and probably four wheel drive while the CRZ will be the higher performance car of the two.
All – New Design – Inside & Outside look
On the exterior, the design of the 2018 Honda CRZ will be something quite different than what we currently have on the market. The wedge shape of the current model will be kept but this is where the similarities end. The new car will receive an all new front end, more similar to that of the next generation Civic, but it will also get aerodynamic features such as a front splitter and even a rear spoiler. The car will sit on 19 inch rims wrapped in high performance tires and it will be stopped by high performance brakes.
The interior of the CRZ will house up to four adults but in the back space might be a bit too cramped. The dashboard will get a unique design which will be used on the new Civic as well and even though it will be a high performance model, it will continue to offer all the usual benefits of a high end hatchback such as satellite navigation, leather upholstery and even a head-up display.
Upgraded Performance & Specs
Engine wise, the 2018 Honda CRZ will come with a more interesting engine than the current version which has a rather poor hybrid system in it. Instead of the hybrid, this new model will get a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine which first debuted on the European Type R this year. However, instead of offering less than 300 horsepower, the CRZ is likely going to be able to offer up to 330 horsepower and more than 300 lb-ft of torque which would put it as the most powerful front wheel drive car currently in production. This engine should be enough for a top speed of over 150 MPH and a 0 to 60 MPH time in the low 5s.
Some rumors also suggested that the European and Japanese models of the CRZ will get a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 which will be coupled to an electric motor, so it will still be able to provide well over 200 horsepower, all while having much better fuel consumption than the 2 liter version. In any case, a 6 speed manual and front wheel drive is going to be the only choice which is fine for us considering it will be a hot-hatchback.
2018 Honda CRZ Price
In terms of pricing, the new CRZ will likely cost over $35,000 for a base model but our best bet would be that it will start at roughly $40,000 in order to make room for the Type R.
The new CRZ will be premiered at 2017 Detroit Auto Show. This information is not confirmed, but there are a lot of rumors that speculate this.
