The new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera had a premiere at Frankfurt AS, officially. The 911 is already an iconic car and Porsche managed to always bring the best 911 on the market with each passing year. However, this year they managed to surprise everyone when they released the new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera which comes with a lot of new features which were simply not expected by a lot of people.
Firstly, they revised the engines of the cars so not only there is more power but these are also quite a bit more efficient. On top of that, the design changed for the better while their interiors are better than ever. The only real drawback is that the great naturally aspirated flat-6 engines are now gone and they have been replaced by newer and more efficient turbocharged units.
The platform is the same as before which also comes as a surprise. However, the suspension system is all new and it has been tuned to deliver more performance during hard cornering as well as more comfort to its passengers. Porsche’s active suspension management system is now standard across the range and that’s great because it can lower the car by up to 10mm during high speed driving or it can raise it during low speed cruising.
As an option, the buyers will also get the chance of a new front lift kit which will raise the car by 40mm to get past speed bumps while the optional four-wheel steering system is certainly going to make a difference during circuit racing.
The Engine & Performance
The new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera also received wider rear tires which not only offer more traction, but they also offer less rolling resistance which is the perfect combination. This has been required because the usual 3.4 liter flat-6 has been replaced by a smaller 3 liter flat-6 which now comes in two different forms. The normal Carrera comes with twin-turbochargers and two small intercoolers which allow the engine to develop up to 370 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque while the S version can offer up to 420 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque with the help of bigger turbochargers and larger intercoolers.
Both of these come as standard with a 7 speed manual gearbox and rear wheel drive while a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic or even all wheel drive are available as optional extras.
Maximum speed and acceleration
The performance levels have been improved quite a bit so the normal Carrera is now capable of achieving 60 MPH in just 4 seconds and get to a maximum top speed of 183 MPH while the S version gets to 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of just over 191 MPH which is already quite a bit better than before.
Design – Inside and Outside look
The design of the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera did not remain unchanged either and this time we have to say that the car has been changed for the better. While Porsche is well known for being quite conservative when it comes to the design of their cars, this new generation comes with a lot of new features which will certainly impress a lot of people. The back of the car received an all new center mounted dual-exhaust system which is perfectly complemented by the wider rear arches which are now standard on all models and not just on the all wheel drive versions of the 911.
The S version also received a new body kit as well as a slightly different front bumper which is said to offer more air to its intercoolers. Inside the cabin, the materials have been bumped up a notch while its infotainment system received a small update which should make it run faster and be much easier to operate than before.
