One more hybrid SUV, 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II Concept. When someone mentions Mitsubishi, the renowned Japanese car manufacturer, first car that you think about is, most probably, the famous Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, one of the most popular sports cars in the world.
Although the company is known for their sports cars and great SUVs, lately, the sales have not been so great. It appears that potential buyers think that their current line up is looking a bit old and not up to date with features and equipment. On the other hand, like all Japanese car manufacturers, cars designed and created by Mitsubishi are known for their great performance, reliability and handling.
Folks at Mitsubishi are definitely working on improving their current line up and one of the ideas that they are developing has been shown on 2015 Geneva Motor Show – the 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept. It is a plug in hybrid, practically a smaller SUV or a crossover. The car has very interesting design and it obviously marks the future of the company. There are some similarities with the XR-PHEV concept shown in 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, but this car is obviously a large step forward for the Japanese manufacturer. The 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept is a preview of the next Outlander Sport, which is not yet officially announced.
2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II Design
On the outside, the 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept has a bold and aggressive design, with lots of sharp lines. However, since this is just a concept, the actual car will most definitely have slightly different design, the one that fits in the current line up of Mitsubishi. The front of the car looks really aggressive, while the back is slightly different, but the overall look of the car is amazing and it would be really interesting if we could see a car like this tomorrow on the roads.
|Length||4.490 MM (176.77 Inches)|
|Width||1.890 MM (74.40 Inches)|
|Height||1.620 MM (63.77 Inches)|
|Wheelbase||2.670 MM (105.11 Inches)|
The cabin of the 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept is really a great piece of design. The dashboard is completely driver oriented and it is dominated by the large touch screen display in the center and on the top of the dashboard. All controls are located in two areas – some controls are on the steering wheel, so that the driver can easily access them and some are in the middle of the center console. The interesting feature of the interior is the aluminum frame that comes out of the center console, which should provide a sense of strength to the passengers.
The Engine range
The 2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept can operate in three different modes – hybrid mode, electric only and gasoline only mode. However, the system itself is primarily designed to operate in electric only mode and it should use the gasoline engine only when extra power is needed. Furthermore, the car can run only on gasoline when there is absolutely no charge in the batteries.
The Engine specs
|Battery capacity||12 kWh|
|Motor output||120 kW (160 HP)|
|CO2 emissions||Below 40 g/km|
2016 Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II Price
Since this is a concept car, it will surely not go on sale. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which is the car that we will be built based on this concept is yet to be announced.
Just like we’ve mentioned – this car will not be for sale, but the model based on this concept will, most probably during 2016.
