The 2015 Volvo XC90 shall mark this SUV’s 1st comprehensive redesign since it first debuted in 2003. The quick evolution of its competitors makes the Volvo no longer stand as the hip and bullet proof icon of the old as family SUV’s such ad the Acura MDX and the GMC offer similar classes, safety standards and comfort.
The 2015 XC90 is seen as a big step towards the development of the Volvo by its Chinese owner “Geely” and its design will be influenced by the recent Estate and XC coupe concepts which have been seen at various motor shows.
The XC90’s specifications and interior
The new 2015 Volvo XC90 is set to receive a complete modification to its interior and include functions like the iPad sized touch screen centrally installed on its dashboard for car owners help and for managing the vehicle infotainment. It is meant to reduce the messy and clumpy look of the dashboard created by the presence of many management buttons. Volvo further says that the management buttons that shall stay will also be given a new and quality look.
Although Volvo is yet to release the final model look of the redesigned XC the recent concept of the XC coupe gives light to what the expected XC90 will look like. It is expected to come with an extra set of doors and a second row of seats. An upright and floating grille, long hood with a wide rear punctuated with tail lamps embedded on the lift-gate are expected to reshape the XC’s ramp to something more assertive and fitting. Its overhauled exterior will sit on top of an all new platform that has a generous infusion of reinforced steel that is meant to maximize the collision protection while at the same time minimizing its weight.
The XC90 is also expected to feature Volvo’s new safety advancements. Further to these current features like; city safe auto-braking, the next-Gen XC90 steering correction-if the car wanders towards the road edges, night time pedestrian detection, and the adaptive cruise control h which will be enhanced with the steering assist. Also, the Volvo’s animal detection system may be included and is aimed to prevent colliding with wildlife.
Volvo is expected to eventually phase out the eclectic mix of current engines and adopt the turbocharged 2.0l, 4-cylinder engine that will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A high power and performance engine will be fitted with a supercharger making it able to produce 300hp or more is expected on XC90’s upper trims. A hybrid plug in version is also expected.
2015 Volvo XC90 Release date and price
The new XC90 is expected to hit sales in early 2015 and is expected to start retailing at a base price of $24,000.
