Ever since MDX grew in size and price, compact spot in Acura’s SUV lineup was left unocupied. Since 2006, that spot belongs to RDX model which is now in its second generation and 2015 year model carries over unchanged. The upcoming model 2015 Acura RDX will be available at the market and showrooms in the end of this year.
Under the Hood
There is basically only one model available, but additional technology package and available all-wheel drive make things a bit more diverse. Base RDX is available with front-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. There’s also only one option under its hood and that is 3.5L aluminum-alloy V6 which delivers up to 273 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque.
Styling – Interior and Exterior
From the outside, RDX doesn’t leave the best of impressions. It does look good, but one would expect more from a luxury car. Probably its weakest spot is generic front end fascia with low nose and small trapezoid grille with one big stripe. Pronounced fenders and roofline with sharply cut pillars are something you’d expect and rear end with big set of tail-lights and chrome garnish between them also look good.
Interior is much better designed and from the moment you enter its cabin, you’ll know that RDX is a luxury vehicle. Leather or perforated leather seats are complemented by soft-touch materials in all-black or two-tone beige/black colors. Dashboard is neatly designed and has an instrument panel which accommodates all available controls. 5-inch full color display sits atop the dash in separate cluster and is responsible for smart device connectivity, audio info and other infotainment features. If you decide to get navigation package, your display will be upgraded to 8-inch screen for better visibility.
Standard audio system comes with seven speakers and 8-inch subwoofer, while optional ELS surround sound system consists of ten speakers and 15 GB of hard drive memory. Beside front, side, and side-curtain airbags RDX offers standard anti-lock brakes, backup camera and traction and stability controls. Sadly, Acura still haven’t decided to include some advanced active safety features.
2015 Acura RDX MPG and Price details
Base front-wheel drive models are rated at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, while optional all-wheel drive drops the ratings by a point to 19/27 mpg. RDX’s pricing starts from $35,095 and ends at $40,195 at least, which is a price for both all-wheel drive and technology package, but not for additional upgrades as well.
2015 Acura RDX is a solid compact luxury crossover with plenty of space and refinement inside. However it still suffers from the lack of electronic safety features and more athletic exterior design which most buyers consider highly important. And recap, if we consider all details and features, this edition is right choice for you.
