In the Pontiac brand’s range, the 2014 Pontiac Trans am is the sportiest model, and though it is also the least exclusive model, it may be the most desired by enthusiasts. The 2014 model comes in two models: the V8 Trans Am and the V8 Firebird Trans am.
2014 Pontiac Trans AM – Engine and Power
The vehicle’s is powered by a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine producing 556 lb-ft of torque and 560 horsepower.
Power is delivered to the back wheels through a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. With both transmissions, the 2014 Pontiac Trans am produces some excellent performance figures. All models drive only with the the rear wheels, through an option of a seven-speed Sportshift 2 (Sportshift 3 in the case of the V8 Trans Am) or six-speed manual transmission automated manual/automatic transmission. With its additional power, the V8 Trans Am is able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 205 mph.
2014 Pontiac Trans AM – Features and Equipment
The 2014 Pontiac Trans am features a Tremec 6-speed automatic/manual gearbox (similar to that in the Corvette) with partial slip differential, as well as Sport cloth seats. The V8 Firebird Trans Am has a unique exterior trim, 20-inch aluminum painted wheels, Brembo four-piston disc brakes and a beefier suspension. Other features include an optional sports exhaust and a sport switch on V8 Trans Am, heated front seats, multi-function support gauges, rearview camera, head-up display, PDIM wireless support device control, Bluetooth, Universal home remote, auto-dimming mirror, controls mounted on the steering wheel and heated mirrors.
For the V8 Firebird Trans Am, there is a new state of the art optional suspension package called FE4. The special package costs about $1,375 and includes deck stripes and the retro hood, HID headlamps with incorporated LED halo rings, interior trim with anniversary logos and accent stitching, and 20-inch aluminum rims.
2014 Pontiac Trans AM Safety and Price
The 2014 Pontiac Trans am has several safety features including front side airbags, frontal airbags, airbag curtains, anti-lock brakes, a tire pressure monitor and electronic traction and stability control and an optional rearview camera. There are also some slight changes to the overall features. If you pay close attention to detail, you will notice that the roofline and door skins of the 2014 model are the same as those of the original donor car.
Everything else is new, including the rear and front quarters, the rear and front bumpers, the trunk, the hood, the spoiler, the wheels, the rockers, as well as the emblems. You might even observe the flat wheelwell covers in both the rear and front quarters, a nod to the flat ’69 openings that took a lot of work to improve on the chassis.
The vehicle’s price ranges from $40 000 to $55 000 depending on the specifications. The V8 Firebird Trans am comes with an excellent standard set of features including updates to the 2013 model, which brought rain-sensing wipers, a backup camera and automatic headlights.
